Sensorem provides major savings for municipalities and care recipients
During 2023 and 2024, Sensorem has run a pilot project together with Karlskrona Municipality (Digitalt Först) and Kinda Municipality (Enkelt och Tryggt hemma), where our mobile security alarms have been tested in ordinary housing. To obtain an independent assessment of the project’s results, the municipalities engaged the research institute RISE, which has now published a report with both quantitative and qualitative effects.
The result is clear: Sensorem’s mobile alarms create very significant benefits – both financially and humanly. For municipalities, this means significant cost savings, and for users, it means a safer, more independent life.
Economic impact: up to six times the money back
A central part of the report from RISE is the socio-economic analysis according to the SROI method (Social Return on Investment). It shows that municipalities get back between 5.5 and 6 kronor for every kronor invested in Sensorem’s alarms:
-
Kinda Municipality: Benefits = SEK 11,601,887, Costs = SEK 1,925,646, SROI ratio = 6.02
-
Karlskrona Municipality: Benefits = SEK 60,415,464, Costs = SEK 10,988,468, SROI ratio = 5.50
It is important to note that RISE has assumed relatively high administrative costs for the municipalities in its calculation. However, in practice, Sensorem handles both onboarding and support, which further increases the actual value for the municipality.
Human gains: security, independence and quality of life
In addition to the economic benefits, the report highlights a wide range of positive effects that cannot be measured in kronor – but are at least as important. Here are some of the non-quantified effects:
-
Increased safety and security in the home and immediate environment
-
Improved independence and mobility
-
Higher perceived quality of life and well-being
-
Increased social participation
-
Better physical and mental health
-
Reduced environmental impact thanks to fewer unnecessary trips
There are also some challenges, such as the risk of reduced perceived privacy or increased loneliness with fewer home care visits. But the report’s overall assessment is clear: the benefits far outweigh any potential disadvantages.
Conclusion: A smarter choice for the future of care
Sensorem’s mobile security alarm is not just a technical aid – it is a solution that strengthens the individual’s freedom and security while providing the municipality with significant savings. When older people are given the opportunity to feel safe and mobile, without being tied to their home, their quality of life improves dramatically.
We now look forward to more municipalities taking part in the positive development that the pilot projects in Karlskrona and Kinda have shown. With the right tools, we can together create a future where seniors can live a more active, independent and meaningful life – with security as a foundation.
